About The Lazy 8 R/C Club

The Lazy Eight Radio Control Club was founded in the early 1960's for members to enjoy and promote the sport of building and flying radio controlled model airplanes.  Over the years the membership has grown to nearly 90 members.
The club is a charter member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA). Information on the AMA can be found on the web at "www.modelaircraft.org". The club also has a Giant Scale Model Airplane Chapter registered with the Internationly Miniature Aircraft Association (IMAA). Information on the IMAA can be found on the web at "www.fly-imaa.org".

Although most of our mebers are from the Fulton and Montgomery County area our membership reaches out to Herkimer, Saratoga, Schenectady and other counties of the Capital Region.  Our diversed membership comes from many walks of life, but they all share a love for building and/or flying radio congtrolled model airplanes.  The members enjoy sharing their vast knowledge and experence to promote the hobby and to help others to learn all aspects of model aviation.
The club hosts an annual charity air show the third weekend of August that features all types of giant scale model airplanes. The air show benefits the James A. Brennan Memorial Humane Society.  The proceeds from the show supports the humane society's "Free Pet Food Program" and provides cat food, dog food and kitty litter to low/fixed income Fulton County Seniors so that they may keep their beloved pets. In addition to hosting the charity air show our club is part of the New York State Adopt A Highway progarm and cleans 2 miles of NY State Highway 29 just West of Johnstown, N.Y. twice a year, provides a subscription of the AMA's magazine "Model Aviation" to both the Gloversville and Johnstown, N.Y. public library's and when needed supports other community eforts.

Our club flys all size and types of model airplanes and helicopters. Some are powered by two and four cycle alcohol based engines, others by electric motors and some of the larger models by two stroke gasoline engines.
Our club is one of the most active clubs in the Capital region.  We have scheduled Fun-flys monthly, an annual Club Picnic, a Neighborhood Club Breakfast, a fun-fly with other area clubs, a float-fly each fall and a Christmas Party.
Spectators are always welcome at our flying field.  Club members can be found flying at the field on most days from late April until late October weather and wind permitting.  Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday mornings and most evening from 5:00 pm to dusk are the most popular times. Anyone interested in more information about the Lazy Eight Radio Control Club can contact one of the club officers using the "Contact" section of this web site.
